Cogeco Diffusion maintains its traffic radio project in the Montréal area
Montréal, July 29, 2011 – Following the publication by the Canadian Radio-television and
Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) of a public notice requesting applications for AM
radio licenses in the Montréal market, Cogeco Diffusion confirms its intention to launch French
and English language radio services entirely dedicated to traffic and road work in the
metropolitan Montréal area. Cogeco Diffusion had filed applications for two AM licences after
signing an agreement with the Ministère des Transports du Québec. The Ministère wishes to
see the implementation of these services very soon this fall so that the public can have
continuous information on the status of road work and traffic on the metropolitan road network.
“The CRTC has established a tight schedule for the filing of applications for the use of the 690
kHz and 940 kHz AM frequencies in the Montréal market and called a hearing to be held on
October 17, 2011. We intend to comply with the modified process as determined by the CRTC,”
said Yves Mayrand, Vice President, Corporate Affairs at Cogeco. “We remain convinced that
our project represents the best use of these frequencies in the circumstances, considering that
the AM band has been abandoned by Montréal radio broadcasters both for talk and music radio
and that traditional commercial radio on the AM band continues to decline everywhere in
Canada,” added Yves Mayrand.
